Vehicle cost is more than fuel. Insurance, maintenance, registration, financing, depreciation and the number of kilometres you drive can change the real annual cost. Compare options using the same distance and time period so a low purchase price does not hide higher running costs.

Before you make the decision

Use recent fuel prices, realistic fuel economy and your actual annual distance where possible. Treat manufacturer efficiency figures as estimates and keep one-off purchase costs separate from recurring running costs.
